Lena Yesil was a student of  mine in CS224, a graduate level  introduction
to Artificial Intelligence, comprising  largely  computer science graduate
students.  Despite the competition, Yesil  performed well in class and  on
examinations, and was one of the few undergraduates to earn a grade of  A.
On her own initiative,  she undertook an  individual project in  robotics,
working with researchers at SAIL (the Stanford AI Lab)'s hand-eye project.
The final report displayed both  creativity in conception and  scholarship
in technical writing.

In sum, based upon my observations of her performance, I believe Yesil has
the ability, and  the drive, to  succeed in the  graduate program she  has
selected here at Stanford.  If she were applying to our own (CS)  Master's
program, I would likewise recommend her without reservation.
